Bumblebee is a prequel to the Transformers franchise and set in 1987, before the events of the first film. The movie follows the titular character, Bumblebee, as he flees from the Decepticons and takes refuge on Earth. He ends up in a junkyard in a small California town, where he is discovered by Charlie Watson, a teenage girl who is struggling to find her place in the world.
Charlie fixes up Bumblebee, who reveals himself to be a sentient Autobot who can transform into a yellow Volkswagen Beetle. The two form a close bond, with Bumblebee acting as Charlie's protector and companion. However, the Decepticons soon track Bumblebee to Earth, leading to a series of intense battles between the Autobots and Decepticons.
Alongside the action-packed battles, the movie also explores themes of friendship, family, and finding one's place in the world. Charlie, who is grieving the loss of her father, finds solace in her friendship with Bumblebee and learns to embrace her own strengths and abilities. Meanwhile, Bumblebee learns to trust and form connections with humans again after being through so much turmoil in the ongoing war between the Autobots and Decepticons.
