The Tibetan kung fu master, known only as the Monk (played by Chow Yun-Fat), is the guardian of the Scroll of the Ultimate, a powerful text that provides the owner with incredible knowledge and abilities. The Monk has been tasked with protecting the scroll for over 60 years, and has traveled the world to keep it out of the wrong hands.
In the present day, the Monk encounters a troubled young street thief named Kar (played by Seann William Scott), who is searching for purpose and meaning in his life. The Monk sees potential in Kar and takes him under his wing, teaching him the ways of kung fu and the importance of humility and selflessness.
As the pair train and travel together, they become entangled in a dangerous plot involving a ruthless Nazi leader (played by Karel Roden), who seeks to obtain the Scroll of the Ultimate and use its powers for his own nefarious purposes. Along the way, the Monk and Kar team up with a beautiful and cunning Russian mobster (played by Victoria Smurfit), who has her own agenda in the hunt for the scroll.
With the fate of the world hanging in the balance, the Monk and Kar must use all of their kung fu skills and knowledge to protect the Scroll of the Ultimate and stop the Nazi leader from achieving his evil goals. Through their journey, Kar learns to embrace selflessness and become a true hero, while the Monk faces his own demons and rediscovers the meaning of his lifelong mission.
