Brubaker is a 1980 American prison drama film directed by Stuart Rosenberg and starring Robert Redford as the titular character, Henry Brubaker. The film is based on the life of Tom Murton, a prison reformer who investigated and exposed corruption in the Arkansas state prison system.
In the film, Henry Brubaker is appointed as the new warden of Wakefield prison, a corrupt and brutal institution where violence and corruption are rampant. Brubaker, who initially poses as an inmate to get a firsthand look at the prison's conditions, faces resistance from the guards and staff who fear losing their power and influence.
As Brubaker begins to clean up the prison, he discovers the shocking extent of the corruption and brutality, including forced labor, sexual abuse of inmates, and murder. The film ends with Brubaker leaving Wakefield prison, realizing that his fight for justice is far from over.
