Broadcast Signal Intrusion is a psychological thriller directed by Jacob Gentry and starring Harry Shum Jr. The film is set in Chicago in the late 90s and follows James (Shum Jr.), a video archivist who discovers a series of pirate broadcasts that have been illegally hacking into local television signals. The broadcasts feature disturbing and cryptic footage that appears to be linked to a series of unsolved murders.
As James delves deeper into the conspiracy behind the broadcasts, he becomes increasingly obsessed with uncovering the truth. His investigation leads him to a mysterious woman named Alice, who claims to have a connection to the broadcasts. Together, they begin to uncover a web of secrets that puts their lives in danger.
The film is inspired by the real-life Max Headroom broadcast signal intrusion incident that occurred in Chicago in 1987. It was mostly filmed on location in Chicago and features a vintage 90s aesthetic.
Broadcast Signal Intrusion debuted at the SXSW Film Festival in March 2021 and received positive reviews for its eerie atmosphere and gripping storyline.
