Stolen Routines: The Toros' Path to Cheer Infamy

Comedy  United States of America

Bring It On is a 2000 American teen comedy film directed by Peyton Reed and written by Jessica Bendinger. It stars Kirsten Dunst as Torrance Shipman, the captain of the Rancho Carne High School cheerleading squad, and Eliza Dushku as Missy Pantone, a new student who joins the squad and helps Torrance uncover the truth about their stolen routines.

As Torrance and Missy investigate, they discover that the former captain of the squad, Big Red (Lindsay Sloane), had been stealing routine ideas from a predominately black school in Los Angeles called East Compton High. With the national championship on the line, the Toros must come up with new, original routines that showcase their true talent and prove that they are worthy of winning on their own merits.

Along the way, Torrance also deals with personal challenges, including a difficult breakup with her boyfriend and tension with her best friend and fellow cheerleader, Whitney (Nicole Bilderback). She develops a romantic connection with Missy's brother, Cliff (Jesse Bradford), and also learns to stand up for herself and her team.

Bring It On was a box office success, grossing over $90 million worldwide. It has since become a cult classic and is often cited as one of the best teen comedies of all time, praised for its humor, performances, and sharp social commentary about cultural appropriation and racial tension in cheerleading and other competitive activities. The movie spawned multiple sequels and a stage musical adaptation.
