Brightburn is a 2019 horror film directed by David Yarovesky and written by Brian and Mark Gunn. The film is a unique take on the superhero genre, exploring the concept of what would happen if a child with superhuman abilities turned out to be a villain instead of a hero.
The movie follows the story of a young couple, Tori and Kyle Breyer, who are struggling to have a child. One night, a spaceship crashes on their farm, and they discover a baby boy inside. They decide to adopt the child, naming him Brandon, and raise him as their own.
As Brandon grows up, it becomes apparent that he possesses extraordinary powers, including super strength and the ability to fly. But instead of using his abilities to help others, Brandon begins to display violent and dangerous behavior. He starts to harm animals and people, causing his parents and the rest of the town to become increasingly terrified of him.
As the situation spirals out of control, Tori and Kyle realize that their son is not who they thought he was. They struggle to understand what has gone wrong and how to stop him before it's too late.
With strong performances from Elizabeth Banks and David Denman as the parents, and Jackson A. Dunn as the sinister Brandon, Brightburn is a fresh and unsettling take on the superhero mythos. The film asks thought-provoking questions about nature vs. nurture and the concept of evil, while also delivering plenty of shocks and scares.
