Bridget Jones is a single, 30-something woman living in London. She is quirky, clumsy, and always finds herself in embarrassing situations. She works as a publicist for a publishing company, where she meets Mark Darcy, a successful and snobbish lawyer.

Despite their initial dislike for each other, Bridget and Mark find themselves drawn to each other and begin a tumultuous relationship. Bridget's friends, including her best friend, Tom, and her eccentric, man-hungry boss, urge her to pursue Mark, despite his uptight and cold demeanor.

As Bridget navigates her way through the turbulent waters of dating, she also struggles with her weight and her self-esteem, often confiding her feelings in her diary. Along the way, she meets and has brief flings with two very different men: Daniel Cleaver, her charming and womanizing boss, and Colin Firth, a handsome and sincere man she meets at a family gathering.

As Bridget's feelings for Mark grow, she begins to question whether or not she can change her chaotic ways and fit into his sophisticated world. In the end, the two can't deny their love for each other and Bridget learns to embrace her imperfections, winning over both Mark and the audience.
