Annie, a single woman in her thirties, has recently lost her bakery business, her boyfriend, and her sense of direction in life. To make matters worse, her lifelong best friend Lillian is getting married and has chosen her as maid of honor. Annie is thrilled to be a part of the wedding; however, she quickly discovers that the other bridesmaids are not as excited about her being there.
Over the course of the wedding preparations, Annie must deal with a series of challenges, including hostility from Lillian’s new friend, Helen, who seems to be taking over Annie's maid of honor duties, and a budding romance with a charming police officer, Rhodes. Annie's anxiety, alcohol abuse, and self-doubt lead to hilarious and embarrassing mishaps at bridal showers, bachelorette parties, and dress fittings.
As the big day approaches, Annie must dig deep to overcome her insecurities and prove to herself and her best friend that she is worthy of the role of maid of honor.
