The movie follows the story of Quincy Watson (played by Jamie Foxx), a man who is blindsided when his fiancée, Nicky (played by Gabrielle Union), breaks up with him. In an attempt to figure out what went wrong in their relationship, he compiles a handbook for men on how to break-up with their girlfriends. The handbook becomes a huge success, and Quincy finds himself catapulted into fame as a bestselling author.
With the help of his cousin Evan (played by Morris Chestnut) and his friend Rita (played by Jennifer Esposito), Quincy begins to explore his newfound celebrity status. However, when Nicky comes back into his life, Quincy realizes that he still has feelings for her and that his handbook may not be the best way to handle a breakup.
