The botanist, Harper, is excited to study the invasive plant species that has recently taken over the area in Borrego. However, her research is interrupted when she stumbles upon a crashed plane in the middle of the desert. She rushes to help anyone who might be in need, but she finds only one survivor, a young man named Kai.
Kai is a drug mule who has been hired to transport a shipment of drugs across the desert. However, he's inexperienced and ill-prepared for the difficult journey. He sees no other option but to force Harper to lead him to his destination. Even though she's initially scared and resentful, Harper realizes that her only chance of survival is to cooperate with Kai.
Meanwhile, the local sheriff, Javier, is alerted to the missing botanist and begins to investigate her disappearance. His rebellious teenage daughter, Lila, who has a strained relationship with her father, takes matters into her own hands and sets out to find Harper on her own.
As Harper and Kai navigate the sweltering desert, they face numerous challenges and obstacles, including dangerous wildlife, treacherous terrain, and rival drug dealers who are on their trail. At the same time, Javier and Lila race against the clock to find Harper before it's too late.
