Bongwater is a quirky indie film directed by Richard Sears and released in 1998. The film follows the misadventures of a group of pot-smoking friends living in Portland, Oregon. David, played by Luke Wilson, is the protagonist and an aspiring artist who spends most of his days smoking weed and selling his paintings to pay the bills.

David is smitten by a girl named Serena, played by Alicia Witt, who shares his love for art and weed. However, their relationship hits a roadblock when David's house burns down and Serena abandons him for Tommy, a lead singer of a local rock band played by Jamie Kennedy.

Despondent and heartbroken, David turns to his circle of pothead friends for comfort. These include his roommate and weed dealer, Tony, played by Jack Black, a jaded activist played by Brittany Murphy, and a mystical elderly woman played by Amy Locane.

As David struggles to cope with his loss, his friends introduce him to a new strain of marijuana called "Bongwater" that they claim has incredible psychoactive properties. Things get weirder as David begins to experience hallucinations and strange visions that lead him on a quest for self-discovery.

Despite its odd premise, Bongwater is a charming and entertaining film with a great ensemble cast. It has been praised for its quirky humor, poignant themes, and unique depiction of the stoner culture.
