Boiler Room is a 2000 crime drama film directed by Ben Younger. The main character, Seth Davis, is a college dropout who is struggling to find a direction in life. He finds a job as a broker at a suburban investment firm called J.T. Marlin. The firm promises its employees the opportunity to get rich quick by selling penny stocks to unsuspecting clients.
Seth quickly rises up the ranks in the company and becomes one of its top brokers. However, as he becomes more successful, he starts to uncover the shady activities that the firm is involved in. He discovers that J.T. Marlin is a "chop shop" that specializes in selling worthless stocks to naive investors. The firm also engages in insider trading and other illegal activities to make a profit.
As Seth continues to work at J.T. Marlin, he becomes conflicted about what he's doing and the morality of the situation. He starts to question the legitimacy of the company and its practices. He eventually decides to blow the whistle on J.T. Marlin and its fraudulent activity. This decision ultimately puts him in danger and jeopardizes his career.
The film highlights the greed and corruption that can exist in the financial industry. The characters are complex and flawed, and the audience sees the consequences of their actions. Boiler Room received mixed reviews upon its release but has since gained a cult following. The movie features an ensemble cast, including Giovanni Ribisi, Vin Diesel, and Ben Affleck.
