Body of Evidence is a 1993 erotic thriller directed by Uli Edel and written by Brad Mirman. Madonna stars as Rebecca Carlson, a seductive woman who becomes the prime suspect in the murder of her older lover, Andrew Marsh (played by Michael Forest). Willem Dafoe stars as Frank Dulaney, the defense attorney hired to represent her in court. As the trial progresses, Dulaney finds himself drawn to Rebecca and becomes entangled in her dangerous web of desire and deceit.
The film features a star-studded cast, including Anne Archer as Joanne Braslow, the prosecuting attorney; Julianne Moore as Sharon Dulaney, Frank's estranged wife; and Joe Mantegna as Robert Garrett, the business partner of the deceased Andrew Marsh.
Throughout the film, Rebecca's sexual appetite is portrayed as her chief weapon, as she seduces men (and women) with her beauty and sensuality in order to manipulate them to do her bidding. The film's many love scenes between Madonna and Dafoe are provocative and steamy, even by today's standards.
Despite negative reviews from critics, Body of Evidence was a commercial success, grossing over $13 million at the box office. It remains a cult classic for fans of erotic thrillers and Madonna devotees alike.
