Body Double is a psychological thriller released in 1984. The film is directed by Brian De Palma and stars Craig Wasson, Melanie Griffith, and Deborah Shelton in the lead roles.
The movie follows the story of Jake Scully, a struggling actor who is suffering from claustrophobia. After losing a job and his girlfriend, he is offered a house-sitting job by a friend. The only drawback is that the home has an unusual design, allowing him to see into the adjacent home with the help of a powerful telescope.
One night, he peeps through the telescope and watches a beautiful woman dancing erotically inside her apartment. This woman, named Gloria, becomes the subject of Jake's voyeuristic obsession. However, his obsession takes a dark turn when he witnesses a masked figure murdering her in her apartment.
Jake becomes the prime suspect in Gloria's murder case, and he embarks on a journey to clear his name. He enlists the help of an adult film actress named Holly Body, who had been wearing Gloria's mask while performing in the now-infamous dance routine that Jake witnessed. Along with Holly, Jake enters the sinister world of porn studios and strip clubs, where he uncovers a complex web of deception and betrayal.
As the story progresses, the line between reality and fantasy blurs, and Jake's grip on his sanity becomes increasingly tenuous. The movie climaxes with a violent confrontation between Jake and the masked killer, leading to a shocking twist ending that leaves the audience reeling.
