Thrill Ride: BMX Heroes vs. Criminal Masterminds

Adventure,Crime,Drama  Australia

BMX Bandits is a 1983 Australian film directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith and starring Nicole Kidman in her first major role. The film follows the adventures of three teenage friends who become embroiled in a dangerous plot involving stolen police equipment and a gang of bank robbers.

P.J. (Angelo D'Angelo) and Goose (James Lugton) are two BMX enthusiasts who spend their days performing daring stunts around the city of Sydney. One day, they meet a girl named Judy (Kidman), who shares their passion for BMX riding. The trio soon become close friends and spend their days exploring the city on their bikes.

Their adventures take a dangerous turn when they stumble upon a group of criminals who are planning a bank robbery. The gang has stolen a box of police walkie-talkies, which they plan to use to monitor police communications during the heist. P.J., Goose, and Judy accidentally get their hands on the walkie-talkies and are pursued by the criminals, who will stop at nothing to get them back.

As the three friends race across the city on their BMX bikes, they use their skills to outmaneuver the criminals and stay one step ahead of the law. With the help of a sympathetic police officer, they are eventually able to foil the robbery and bring the criminals to justice.

BMX Bandits is a fast-paced, action-packed film that showcases the athleticism and creativity of BMX riding. It was particularly notable for its use of real BMX riders to perform the stunts in the film, giving it a gritty authenticity that still holds up today. The film also helped launch the career of Nicole Kidman, who would go on to become one of the biggest stars in Hollywood.
