Blood Simple is a 1984 neo-noir crime film directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, and was their directorial debut. The film stars Frances McDormand, John Getz, Dan Hedaya and M. Emmet Walsh.

The movie begins with Julian Marty (Dan Hedaya), the owner of a bar in a small Texas town, suspecting that his wife Abby (Frances McDormand) is having an affair with his bartender, Ray (John Getz). Marty hires a private investigator named Visser (M. Emmet Walsh) to follow and photograph them, hoping to catch them in the act. When Visser shows Marty pictures of Ray and Abby together, he becomes enraged and decides to have them both killed.

However, events quickly spiral out of control as Visser sets his own plan in motion, leaving a trail of dead bodies and a tangled web of lies and deception in his wake. The murder plot starts to unravel, with each character trying to outsmart the other, leading to a series of suspenseful and chilling scenes.

As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that nobody is truly innocent, and each character is motivated by their own selfish desires. The Coen Brothers masterfully use music, lighting and camera angles to create a tense and atmospheric mood throughout the film.

Blood Simple was praised for its gripping story, tight pacing and impressive cinematography. It remains a cult favorite among fans of the Coen Brothers and the neo-noir genre. It also marked the beginning of a successful career for Frances McDormand, who went on to win multiple Academy Awards for her performances in Coen Brothers films.
