The movie Blood Brothers: Malcolm X & Muhammad Ali chronicles the unique and incredible friendship between Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali, two iconic figures of the Civil Rights Movement. The film examines the complex relationship between the two men, from their initial chance meeting in 1962 to their eventual falling out in 1964.
The movie explores the similarities and differences in their ideologies, and the influence they had on each other's lives. Malcolm X, a staunch advocate for black empowerment and separatism, instilled a sense of pride and self-respect in Ali, who was then known as Cassius Clay. Ali, on the other hand, inspired Malcolm X to believe in the power of mass mobilization and integration.
As the two men became closer, they found themselves at odds with the Nation of Islam, the organization that both had been affiliated with. Malcolm X's growing disillusionment with the group's leadership and his own personal evolution led to a falling out with Ali, who remained loyal to the organization and its leader, Elijah Muhammad.
