Blizzard of Souls is a Latvian historical war drama film released in 2019. It is based on the novel "Baltijas DÄ“ls" by Aleksandrs Grins and directed by Dzintars Dreibergs. The story is set during World War I and follows the journey of a 16-year-old Latvian boy named Arturs Vanags who joins the Imperial Russian Army after the German Empire invades Latvia.

Arturs, along with his friends, is sent to the Eastern Front, where he witnesses the brutality of the war and the toll it takes on soldiers' mental and physical health. He experiences how war changes people, how it can strip them of their innocence and their humanity. As the conflict progresses, Arturs becomes deeply disillusioned by the Russian authorities and their treatment of Latvian soldiers.

Blizzard of Souls portrays the harsh reality of a nation caught in the midst of a brutal conflict, as the Russian Army forces its colonial subjects to fight for the very oppressors responsible for their suffering. It highlights the fight for survival, the clash of cultures and nations, and the irrevocable changes that war brings to individuals and society as a whole. The movie received critical acclaim for its realistic portrayal of war, its emotional depth, and its poignant message of the true cost of conflict.
