Blitz is a 2011 action thriller directed by Elliott Lester and based on a novel of the same name by Ken Bruen. The movie follows Detective Tom Brant (Jason Statham), a tough and uncompromising cop with a history of violence, who is dispatched to catch a serial killer who has been targeting police officers in London.
Working alongside Brant is his openly gay police partner, Porter Nash (Paddy Considine), who provides a sharp contrast to Brant's rough exterior. Together, Brant and Nash race against time to catch the killer before he strikes again.
As the investigation unfolds, the killer, who goes by the name "The Blitz," begins taunting Brant and Nash, leaving clues at each of his crime scenes. After a series of intense confrontations, Brant and Nash are able to identify the killer as a mentally unstable man named Weiss (Aidan Gillen).
However, before they can apprehend him, Weiss goes on the run, leading to a high-stakes game of cat and mouse through the streets of London. In the end, Brant and Nash are able to apprehend Weiss, but not without a final, deadly showdown.
Blitz delivers a gritty, violent take on the police procedural genre, with strong performances from its lead actors and a suspenseful, twist-filled plot. Despite its dark subject matter, the film also manages to inject moments of humor and humanity, particularly in the relationship between Brant and Nash.
