Sculptor's Obsession: A Sensory Seduction

Drama,Horror  Japan

Blind Beast is a Japanese horror film directed by Yasuzo Masumura and released in 1969. The film stars Eiji Funakoshi as Michio, a blind sculptor who becomes obsessed with a young model, Aki (Mako Midori). Michio kidnaps Aki and takes her to his warehouse studio, where he has created a labyrinth of sculptures and installations that are dedicated to the female form.

As the story progresses, Michio uses his heightened sense of touch to explore and manipulate Aki's body, blurring the line between sensual pleasure and sadistic violence. Aki, meanwhile, struggles to understand her captor and find a way to escape.

Blind Beast is known for its surreal and highly stylized visuals, which emphasize the tactile and visceral aspects of the human body. The film has been interpreted as a commentary on the objectification of women in art and society, as well as a critique of the traditional gender roles and power dynamics within romantic relationships.

Despite its controversial subject matter and graphic content, Blind Beast received critical acclaim upon its release and has since become a cult classic of Japanese horror cinema.
