The Reanimated Monster of War

Action,Horror,Science Fiction  United States of America

Blackenstein is a 1973 horror film directed by William A. Levey and starring John Hart, Ivory Stone, and Joe De Sue. The film is a modern retelling of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, with a distinctly black perspective.

Eddie Turner, a war veteran, loses his arms and legs while fighting in Vietnam and returns home to the United States. His devoted fiance, Dr. Winifred Walker, is a skilled surgeon who is able to graft new limbs onto Eddie's body. However, Eddie's recovery takes a dark turn when a jealous assistant, Dr. Stein, injects him with an experimental serum that transforms him into a hulking monster.

Unaware of Eddie's transformation, Winifred continues with her work until she discovers Dr. Stein's sinister plot and enlists the help of a former colleague to stop the monster that Eddie has become.

Blackenstein was lauded for being one of the first films to feature a black monster and was notable for its social commentary on racism, war, and government experiments on soldiers. However, the film received mixed reviews and was criticized for its low budget and poor acting. Despite this, Blackenstein remains a cult classic in the horror genre.
