In the beginning of the movie, Jamal is depicted as an underpaid and under-appreciated employee at Medieval World, a rundown medieval-theme amusement park. He takes his job as a jester quite seriously, but his hard work is often taken for granted and he is constantly teased by his colleagues.
One day, while trying to retrieve a valuable medallion that had fallen into a moat, Jamal is knocked unconscious and awakens to find himself transported back in time to 14th century England. Initially, he is convinced that he is still in the amusement park and that everything around him is just part of a new and elaborate ride.
However, Jamal quickly realizes that he is living in a real medieval world, complete with knights, lords, and damsels in distress.
