Black Hawk Down is a 2001 war film directed by Ridley Scott and based on a book by journalist Mark Bowden. The movie is set in Somalia in 1993, during a conflict between the United Nations and Somali militia.

The story follows a group of U.S. Army Rangers and Delta Force soldiers as they attempt to capture two top lieutenants of the Somali warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid, who has been disrupting humanitarian efforts in the war-torn country. The mission is supposed to be a quick in-and-out operation, but things go horribly wrong when two Black Hawk helicopters are shot down by RPGs (rocket-propelled grenades) and crash-land in the city.

The soldiers on the ground are quickly surrounded by heavily armed militiamen and find themselves in a brutal battle for survival. The movie depicts the intense fighting that takes place over the course of the next 18 hours, as the soldiers try to hold their ground and rescue their fallen comrades.

The film features a large ensemble cast, including actors such as Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor, Tom Sizemore, and Eric Bana. It was praised for its realistic portrayal of combat and for its attention to detail in recreating the events of the Battle of Mogadishu. The movie won two Academy Awards and was a commercial success, grossing over $170 million worldwide.
