Black Garden is a post-apocalyptic drama film written and directed by Shaun Wilson. The movie takes place eight days after a nuclear war has devastated the world. Kate (played by Cara Culligan) is a survivor who discovers a radio signal and strikes up a friendship with the voice on the other end, who she names Rose (voiced by Sadie Kaye).
With nothing left to lose, Kate embarks on a journey to find the origins of the radio signal and comes across a desolate landscape filled with abandoned cities and burned-out buildings. She also encounters other survivors along the way, some of whom are struggling to maintain hope in the face of their dire circumstances, while others have given up completely.
As Kate gets closer to finding Rose, she begins to realize that the radio signal may not be all that it seems and that there may be a darker truth behind it. The movie explores themes such as isolation, survival, and the human will to live in the face of overwhelming odds.
Black Garden was shot on a small budget and features mostly unknown actors. The film premiered at the London Independent Film Festival in 2019 and has since been released on various streaming platforms. Reviewers have praised the movie for its strong performances and emotional depth, despite its low production values.
