Fantasy,Music,Comedy  Czechoslovakia

Black and White Sylva is a Hungarian film directed by Istvan Szabo. The film tells the story of a character named Sylva, played by actress Mari Torocsik, who is a singer and actress in a black and white musical film set in the 1930s. One day, while filming a scene, Sylva suddenly finds herself transported to the present day, and she is shocked to discover that she is now living in a world that is vastly different from the one she knows.

As Sylva tries to navigate this new world and adjust to its modern customs and technology, she is taken in by a young man named Istvan, who is a fan of black and white films and recognizes her as a character from one. He becomes her guide and mentor, helping her to adapt to contemporary life. Along the way, the two fall in love, but their happiness is threatened when Sylva's old world comes calling.

The film touches on themes of cultural identity, nostalgia, and the changing nature of art and entertainment. It was released in 1981, predating similar films such as The Purple Rose of Cairo and Escape from the 'Liberty' Cinema. Black and White Sylva was widely acclaimed in Hungary and internationally, winning multiple awards at the Cannes Film Festival, including the Grand Prize of the Jury.
