Bird on a Wire is a 1990 action-comedy film directed by John Badham and starring Mel Gibson and Goldie Hawn. The movie tells the story of Rick Jarmin (Gibson), a former FBI informant who has been in the Witness Protection Program for the last 15 years, living under a false identity as a Seattle garage mechanic.
One day, Rick's past catches up with him when his old flame, Marianne Graves (Hawn), spots him while she is on vacation with her fiance. Initially thrilled to see her again, Rick soon realizes that since Marianne is a lawyer and knows nothing about his past as an informant, his true identity is in danger of being exposed.
To make matters worse, the corrupt FBI agents who originally put Rick in the Witness Protection Program have discovered his whereabouts and are now out to silence him permanently. As Rick and Marianne race across the country trying to evade both the FBI and the dangerous criminals pursuing them, they begin to rekindle their old romance.
The film was a commercial success, grossing over $138 million worldwide, and received mixed reviews from critics. Critics praised the chemistry between the two main leads, but criticized the predictable plot and lack of originality.
