Big Momma's House is a 2000 American comedy film directed by Raja Gosnell, written by Darryl Quarles and Don Rhymer. The film stars Martin Lawrence as an FBI agent named Malcolm Turner who is assigned to go undercover as an elderly woman to protect the life of a witness and her son from a dangerous criminal named Lester Vesco (played by Terrence Howard).
Malcolm's job is to watch over Sherry Pierce (played by Nia Long) and her 10-year-old son Trent (played by Jascha Washington). However, when he finds out that Vesco is on his way to kill them, he jumps into action and transforms himself into an elderly woman named Big Momma. He then moves in with Sherry and Trent as their nanny to keep them safe.
As Big Momma, Malcolm quickly discovers that life in the South is quite different from the big city. He also finds himself drawn to Sherry and her family, and even helps them with their problems. Meanwhile, he struggles to maintain his cover and keep the dangerous Vesco at bay.
Big Momma's House was a commercial success, grossing over $173 million worldwide. It received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising Lawrence's performance and the film's humor, while others criticized it for relying too heavily on crude jokes. The film spawned two sequels, Big Momma's House 2 and Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son.
