Big Bad Mama is a 1974 American action-comedy film directed by Steve Carver. The film follows Wilma McClatchie, a widowed mother of two daughters named Polly and Billie-Jo, as she turns to a life of crime during the Great Depression to make ends meet.
The family starts by bootlegging liquor in their small town but quickly moves on to bank robbing when they need more money. Along the way, they are joined by a charming conman named Fred Diller who helps them with their heists.
As they become more successful, they come to the attention of the law and are pursued by a tenacious detective named Bonney. Despite his efforts, the McClatchie family manages to evade him and continue their crime spree across the country.
Their adventures lead them to encounters with various colorful characters including a group of hippies, a hillbilly family, and a wealthy oil tycoon. But as they amass more wealth, the family becomes increasingly reckless and the law closes in on them.
In the end, the McClatchie family has to confront their actions and the consequences that come with them. Big Bad Mama is a fun and entertaining movie with a strong cast led by Angie Dickinson as Wilma and William Shatner as Diller. It is a classic example of the exploitation genre of the 1970s.
