Beyond Re-Animator is a 2003 horror film and the third installment in the Re-Animator film series. The story takes place thirteen years after the events of the previous film, Bride of Re-Animator. The film follows the mad scientist Herbert West as he continues his experiments with re-animating the dead. This time, he is doing so in the confines of a maximum-security prison cell where he has been incarcerated for his previous experiments.
West's experiments come to a sudden halt when a new prison doctor arrives to take charge of the facility. The new doctor, Howard Phillips, is the younger brother of the girl who was a victim of West's experiments in the past. Phillips is determined to stop West from continuing his unethical experiments and seeks to bring him to justice.
However, things take a dark turn when West manages to reanimate one of the prison's inmates, causing chaos and destruction in the prison. As he continues his experiments, West must also contend with hostile prison guards and inmates who seek to end his research for good.
Beyond Re-Animator was directed by Spanish filmmaker Brian Yuzna and stars Jeffrey Combs in his third outing as Herbert West. The film received mixed reviews upon its release, with some fans of the Re-Animator series appreciating its campy horror humor while others criticized the film's low-budget effects and lack of originality.
