The movie Best Man Down follows the story of Scott and Kristin, a newlywed couple who decide to cancel their honeymoon and return to their snowy hometown in the Midwest after their best man, Lumpy, dies unexpectedly. Lumpy had been the life of the party during the wedding, but the morning after the ceremony, Scott and Kristin wake up to find him dead in their bathroom.
As they begin to make funeral arrangements for Lumpy, Scott and Kristin discover that their best man had a lot of secrets they never knew about. They also discover that Lumpy had been struggling with addiction, and that he had been living a much different life than the one they thought he had.
As the couple begins to unravel Lumpy's secrets, they also begin to discover the impact he had on many people's lives, including a teenage girl who Lumpy had been mentoring. They also meet Ramsey, Lumpy's childhood friend who has been struggling with his own addiction.
Throughout the movie, Scott and Kristin navigate their own grief and guilt over Lumpy's death, and they come to realize that there are many different kinds of love and friendship. The film deals with themes of loss, addiction, and the complexity of human relationships.
Best Man Down stars Justin Long as Scott, Jess Weixler as Kristin, and Tyler Labine as Lumpy. It was directed by Ted Koland and premiered at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival.
