The three characters, Kate, Jack, and Mike, are old friends who often meet up and share their experiences with each other. During one of their conversations, they realize that despite all the fears they've faced, they have never truly felt fear.
Determined to experience this elusive emotion, they decide to play a game. Each of them will try to scare the others in turn, and whoever manages to scare the others the most will win. As they begin their game, they realize that they are in way over their heads.
Kate's trick involves telling a ghost story that she heard from her grandmother. She creates eerie sound effects and uses a flashlight to cast spooky shadows on the wall. However, Jack and Mike remain unimpressed, and Kate feels embarrassed and frustrated.
Next, Jack suggests a game of hide-and-seek in the dark. He warns Kate and Mike that he knows every nook and cranny of the old house they're in, which makes him the perfect seeker. However, when it's Mike's turn to hide, he realizes that Jack has rigged the game by placing a fake spider in the room he chooses to hide in. Though Mike screams when he sees the spider, he doesn't feel true fear.
Finally, Mike decides to take matters into his own hands and concocts a plan that exposes the trio's darkest fears. He tells them that he has a secret to share - one that he's kept hidden all his life. As he speaks, Kate and Jack grow uneasy, sensing that something sinister is coming. However, when Mike reveals his secret, it's revealed to be a harmless fact that his friends already knew.
