Berlin Calling is a German drama film that follows techno musician Martin Karow, also known as DJ Ickarus, and his struggle with mental health issues and substance abuse. The film is directed and written by Hannes Stรถhr.
Martin is a successful DJ who tours around the world with his manager, Mathilde, and his girlfriend, Anja. However, things take a turn for the worse when Martin becomes addicted to drugs and suffers a mental breakdown. At a gig in Frankfurt, he overdoses and is admitted to a psychiatric clinic in Berlin.
Mathilde, who is also Martin's agent, manages to get him released from the clinic temporarily so that he can perform at an important gig in Berlin. However, Martin's mental state continues to deteriorate, and he struggles to cope with the pressure of his career and personal life.
Over the course of the film, Martin attempts to confront his addiction and mental health issues while also trying to make amends with his girlfriend and manager. Along the way, he meets other patients at the psychiatric clinic who help him find a new perspective on life.
The film's soundtrack features original music by Paul Kalkbrenner, who also plays the lead role of Martin. Berlin Calling was released in 2008 and received positive reviews for its portrayal of mental health issues and the electronic music scene in Berlin.
