Drama  Germany,Netherlands,France

The movie Berlin Alexanderplatz is an adaptation of Alfred Doblin’s novel of the same name, but set in modern-day Berlin. The story revolves around Francis, a 30-year-old refugee who survived a perilous journey across the Mediterranean Sea on a boat filled with other migrants seeking a better life in Europe.

Upon his arrival in Berlin, Francis finds himself alone and without any citizenship papers or means of survival. He is forced to navigate the treacherous underbelly of the city, where he becomes involved in a world of crime, drugs, and violence. Francis soon discovers that the only way he can survive in this harsh environment is by becoming a part of it.

As he gradually becomes more entangled in the criminal underworld of Berlin, Francis is forced to make difficult choices that test his moral compass. He must decide whether to continue down the path of violence and crime or seek a better life outside of the shadows.

Through the character of Francis, Berlin Alexanderplatz explores the issues of immigration, displacement, and the struggle for identity in a modern, multicultural city. The film provides a stark portrayal of the challenges faced by refugees and immigrants as they attempt to settle into a new home, while also shedding light on the realities of modern-day Berlin and the darker corners of urban life.
