In Bend of the River, Glyn McLyntock (played by James Stewart) and his friend Cole (played by Arthur Kennedy) are former Missouri border raiders who join a wagon train headed to Oregon in hope of a fresh start. Along the way, they encounter hostility from other travelers and Native American tribes.
As they approach their destination, the group finds that a gold rush has brought lawlessness to the area. McLyntock and Cole take it upon themselves to restore order, but tensions rise as it becomes clear that Cole has a darker past than anyone realized.
The film, directed by Anthony Mann, was released in 1952 and received critical acclaim for its cinematography and strong performances by the cast. It has since become a classic example of the Western genre, with its themes of redemption and frontier justice.
