Before/During/After follows the story of Carly Stone, a successful theatre actress in her 50s who suddenly finds herself single after her husband, Jack, cheats on her. Carly is forced to navigate the challenging and often confusing terrain of dating in modern times, while also grappling with a loss of identity as her marital status has previously defined much of her life.
Throughout the film, Carly reflects on her past and future aspirations, as well as the roles she's played on stage and screen, in order to discover who she wants to be next. She receives support from her daughter, Zoe, who is dealing with her own relationship troubles, as well as her close friend and fellow actress, Sienna.
