After discovering that he has traveled back in time, George tries to figure out how to prevent Doug from cheating on Jane. He befriends Jane, who doesn't remember him from the future, and tries to convince her to break off the engagement with Doug. However, his attempts to change the past have unexpected consequences that threaten to jeopardize his own future.
As George gets closer to Jane, he realizes that he has feelings for her and begins to question whether he wants to return to his own time. Meanwhile, Doug becomes suspicious of George's intentions and tries to sabotage his efforts to win Jane's heart.
Throughout the movie, George tries to find a way to fix the past without altering the future. He enlists the help of his best friend and co-worker, Neal, who is skeptical of George's time-traveling story but eventually begins to help him.
As the wedding day approaches, George must decide whether to reveal his true identity to Jane and risk altering the course of their relationship, or to let her go and return to his own time. In the end, George's efforts pay off and he is able to prevent Doug from cheating on Jane, but he also learns important lessons about life and love along the way.
