Blood Serum Experiment Gone Wrong Sparks Transformation

Crime,Science Fiction,Horror  United States of America

Before I Hang is a 1940 horror film directed by Nick Grinde and starring Boris Karloff as Dr. John Garth, a physician who is on death row for euthanizing a patient. While in prison, he begins experimenting with serum using the blood of convicted criminals in the hopes of finding a cure for aging.

Dr. Garth manages to create a serum that rejuvenates cells, but, driven by desperation, he secretly injects himself with it. He is then pardoned for his crime and released from prison.

However, he soon discovers that his serum has transformed him into a "Jekyll-and-Hyde" character, prone to uncontrollable fits of rage and violence. This leads him to commit gruesome murders, which he cannot remember.

Suspicion falls on Garth, and his former assistant, Paul Ames (Edward Van Sloan), becomes determined to uncover the truth and stop the killings. The tension builds to a dramatic climax as Garth's transformation becomes increasingly pronounced, and Ames races against time to find out what is happening before it's too late.

Overall, Before I Hang is a classic example of a horror movie from the 1940s, with a compelling storyline, strong performances, and a chilling atmosphere. Boris Karloff delivers a standout performance as the tormented Dr. Garth, while the supporting cast is equally impressive. The film offers a fascinating exploration of the dangers of scientific experimentation and the consequences of playing God with nature.
