The movie Beautiful Boy is based on the memoirs of journalist David Sheff and his son, Nic Sheff. The film follows the story of David Sheff, played by Steve Carell, as he struggles to help his son Nic, played by Timothée Chalamet, who becomes addicted to methamphetamine.
The story begins with Nic experimenting with drugs, smoking pot and trying various other substances. David initially assumes that his son is just going through a phase and tries to talk to him about the dangers of drug use. However, things take a turn for the worse when Nic starts using methamphetamine and becomes increasingly distant from his family.
David tries to help Nic by sending him to rehab and seeking professional help, but the addiction proves to be too strong for Nic to overcome. The family's emotional journey is portrayed through flashbacks and conversations between David and Nic, as well as through the perspectives of Nic's mother, stepmother, and younger siblings.
Throughout the film, the audience sees how drug addiction not only affects the individual but also the loved ones around them. Beautiful Boy is a raw, honest portrayal of the challenges that come with addiction and the difficult decisions that families have to make in order to help their loved ones.
