The final film in the original Planet of the Apes franchise picks up 10 years after the events of the previous film, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. Ape leader Caesar (again played by Roddy McDowall) rules over a society in which apes and humans coexist in relative peace.
However, tensions begin to rise when a gorilla named Aldo (Claude Akins) becomes dissatisfied with Caesar's leadership and begins to plot a rebellion. Meanwhile, a group of human mutants who live underground, led by Governor Kolp (Severn Darden), see the apes as a threat to their existence and plan to launch an attack.
As the tensions between the apes and humans escalate, Caesar must make difficult decisions in order to maintain peace and save his community. The film ultimately culminates in a climactic battle, providing closure to the series.
Despite mixed reviews upon its release in 1973, Battle for the Planet of the Apes has since become a beloved cult classic, rounding out the franchise with a satisfying conclusion.
