The movie is based on a four-issue comic book series of the same name written by Frank Miller and illustrated by Klaus Janson and Lynn Varley. It is set in an alternate universe where Batman retired after the death of his sidekick, Jason Todd. The story follows Bruce Wayne as he struggles to come to terms with his aging body and the changing world of crime in Gotham City.
The movie opens with Batman facing off against his arch-nemesis, The Joker, who has been comatose in Arkham Asylum for ten years. The Joker awakens and causes chaos in the city, leading Batman to question whether he is still capable of fighting crime.
Meanwhile, a new gang called The Mutants has taken over the streets of Gotham, led by a ruthless leader named Bruno. Batman reluctantly dons the cape and cowl once again to stop the gang and bring law and order back to the city.
Along the way, Batman partners with a new Robin, a young girl named Carrie Kelley who idolizes the Dark Knight. Together, they take on The Mutants and other villains, including Two-Face and the leader of the Sons of Batman.
The movie ends with a dramatic showdown between Batman and Superman, who has been sent by the government to stop the vigilante from causing more chaos. Batman uses his brains and brawn to defeat the Man of Steel, proving that he still has what it takes to fight crime in a new era.
