Basic is a 2003 American mystery thriller film directed by John McTiernan and starring John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Connie Nielsen, Tim Daly, and Giovanni Ribisi. The film follows DEA agent Tom Hardy as he investigates the disappearance of a legendary Army ranger drill sergeant, Nathan West, and several of his cadets during a training exercise in the jungles of Panama.
