Barfi! is a 2012 Indian romantic comedy-drama film directed by Anurag Basu and starring Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, and Ileana D'Cruz in lead roles. The film tells the story of a deaf and mute man named Barfi who falls in love with two women, a hearing-impaired girl named Jhilmil and an engaged woman named Shruti.
Barfi, played by Ranbir Kapoor, lives in Darjeeling and is known for his mischievous behavior. Despite being deaf and mute, he communicates through gestures and expressions with his close friend and confidante, Shruti. However, when Shruti gets engaged to someone else, Barfi falls in love with Jhilmil, who is also deaf and mute.
The story takes a dramatic turn when Jhilmil is abducted, and Barfi is suspected of being involved in the kidnapping. The film then follows Barfi's journey to clear his name and rescue Jhilmil, all while dealing with Shruti's lingering affection for him.
Barfi! was well-received by both audiences and critics and went on to become one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of 2012. It was also India's official entry to the Best Foreign Language Film category for the 85th Academy Awards but did not receive a nomination.
