Barb and Star, played by Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo respectively, are best friends who have spent their entire lives in the same small town in the mid-west. They share an unbreakable bond and an obsession with things like culottes and talking to each other in strange accents. However, when they both lose their jobs at a furniture store, they decide to go on a life-changing adventure and go on a vacation to Vista Del Mar, Florida.
At Vista Del Mar, the two friends find themselves in a colorful paradise filled with beaches, palm trees, and hunky men. Despite being in awe of their surroundings, they quickly realize that they are not the only ones in this paradise, and soon, their trip takes a dangerous turn. While there, they meet Edgar, played by Jamie Dornan, who takes a liking to Star. Edgar, however, is not who he appears to be. He is working for a villainous mastermind, played by Wiig, who has a plot to kill everyone in Vista Del Mar using genetically engineered mosquitoes.
