Bad Therapy is a 2020 indie comedy-drama that follows the story of a married couple Bob and Susan Howard, played by Rob Corddry and Alicia Silverstone, who seek out counseling help from Judy Small, played by Michaela Watkins. At first, Judy, who poses as a licensed therapist, appears trustworthy and has a very calm demeanor, and Bob and Susan start to open up to her.
However, as the couple progresses through their sessions, Judy begins to establish increasingly strange and unconventional methods of therapy, and her own personal delusions begin to seep into their sessions. Eventually, Bob and Susan realize that Judy is involved in their personal lives in ways that extend beyond therapy, and she has become obsessed with them.
As the plot unravels, it becomes clear that Judy has her past issues to deal with and is secretly recording her therapy sessions with the couple, leading to a catastrophic conclusion.
Bad Therapy received mixed reviews upon release, with critics praising the strong performances from the cast and the clever writing but criticizing some of the plot's predictability. The film is directed by William Teitler and written by Nancy Doyne and actress-director-director Lisa Edelstein.
