In "Bad Teacher," Cameron Diaz portrays Elizabeth Halsey, a foul-mouthed and self-absorbed middle school teacher who has no interest in teaching. She spends most of her days sleeping at her desk, showing movies to her students, and getting high in the teacher's lounge.
Elizabeth is engaged to a wealthy businessman, but after he discovers that she is only interested in him for his money, he breaks off the engagement. She is left with no money and no prospects, and the only thing she can think of to do is to save up for a breast enlargement operation.
In order to do so, Elizabeth is forced to return to her job as a teacher. She becomes more motivated to succeed when she meets Scott Delacorte (Justin Timberlake), a handsome and wealthy substitute teacher who is also a potential donor for her surgery. However, Scott is also being pursued by Amy Squirrel (Lucy Punch), a fellow teacher who is Elizabeth's nemesis.
Elizabeth becomes determined to win Scott's affections and gain a promotion by any means possible. She even resorts to cheating on the state test to raise her students' scores, and plans to use the bonus money for her surgery.
In the end, Elizabeth is caught and fired from her position, but not before she realizes that her true passion is teaching. She returns to school to begin teaching again, but this time, with a renewed sense of purpose and dedication, and without the selfish motivations that drove her previously.
