The conman in question is Willie, played by Billy Bob Thornton, who is an alcoholic and sex-addicted criminal. He and his partner, Marcus, played by Tony Cox, have been pulling off the same Christmas Eve heist for several years. The plan involves Willie posing as Santa and Marcus as his elf, both gaining access to the stores' after-hours safes. However, their plan is jeopardized when Willie becomes too attached to a young boy named Thurman, played by Brett Kelly, who is neglected by his grandma and thinks Willie is the real Santa. Willie discovers that Thurman's father, who is in prison, is the reason for Thurman's troubled behavior. Meanwhile, the store's security boss, Gin, played by Bernie Mac, becomes suspicious and investigates. As Willie tries to bond with Thurman and make his Christmas a memorable one, things become more complicated as his personal life and his criminal activity clash. The movie is a dark comedy that uses its R rating to create a story that is both comical and unsavory.
