The main character, Ted, is an American photographer who has recently returned from a trip to Nepal. He is bitten by a werewolf while on the trip and has been struggling to contain the curse ever since. Ted moves back home to his family in California, hoping that he can control the beast within him.

Ted's sister, Janet, and her young son, Brett, are thrilled to have him home. They are unaware of Ted's condition and are happy to have him around. Ted's dog, Thor, senses that something is not right with Ted and tries to protect him from himself.

As the full moon approaches, Ted's control slips and he transforms into a werewolf. He tries to hide his condition from his family, but soon it becomes impossible. Ted's behavior becomes increasingly erratic and he begins to endanger those around him.

Ted's family becomes increasingly worried about him and seeks help from a park ranger, Marjorie, who has experience with wolf attacks in the area. She comes to Ted's aid and tries to help him control his werewolf side.

In a final showdown, Ted is forced to confront his werewolf side in order to save his family. Thor is the key to his success and ultimately saves the day. The movie ends with Ted at peace, having finally freed himself from the curse of the werewolf.
