The movie begins with Kyle and Jenna, who work at the same company but can barely stand each other. However, their siblings fall in love, and they are tasked with planning their nephew's baby shower. Jim and Trisha are struggling financially, and this causes tension between them and their families.
Kyle and Jenna initially butt heads while planning the shower but eventually realize they share a common goal of wanting to help Jim and Trisha. They team up to organize a fundraiser to help the couple get back on their feet financially.
As they work together, Jenna and Kyle start to see each other in a new light and begin to develop feelings for each other. However, they both try to deny these feelings, as they are focused on helping their families.
The fundraiser does not go as planned, and the couple ends up losing all the money they raised. Feeling defeated, they head out to a bar to drown their sorrows. However, they end up getting snowed in, along with the rest of the patrons, and spend the night bonding over their shared experiences.
The next morning, they realize they have formed an unlikely bond and decide to continue their New York adventure together in the hopes of finding a way to help Jim and Trisha. As they navigate the city, they encounter various obstacles but ultimately manage to come up with a plan to help Jim and Trisha save their home.
On Christmas day, the families come together to celebrate the birth of their new nephew and witness the goodwill that has come from their unexpected alliance. Kyle and Jenna finally confess their feelings for each other, and the movie ends with them sharing a kiss as snow falls around them.
