Verona and Burt, played by Maya Rudolph and John Krasinski, are a young couple expecting their first child. They have recently moved to Colorado to be close to Burt's parents, but when his parents announce they are moving to Belgium, Verona and Burt are left without a support system and unsure of where to call home.
In search of a new place to live and the perfect environment to raise their child, Verona and Burt embark on a journey across the country to visit family and friends. They travel to different cities and climates, staying with a variety of eccentric characters, including Verona's former boss, an old college friend, and Burt's cousin.
As they visit each location, Verona and Burt are forced to confront their own anxieties and uncertainties about their future as parents. They witness the good and bad aspects of different parenting styles, from Verona's sister's helicopter parenting to Burt's cousin's laissez-faire approach.
