Austenland follows the story of Jane Hayes, a single woman in her thirties who is obsessed with the BBC production of Pride and Prejudice. Feeling unfulfilled with her own love life, Jane decides to spend all her savings on a trip to Austenland, a Jane Austen-themed resort in the English countryside.
Upon arrival, Jane finds herself surrounded by like-minded individuals, all dressed in period costumes, and all searching for their own perfect gentleman. Jane is assigned a fake identity and expected to fully immerse herself in the Regency-era lifestyle, with no modern technology or amenities available.
As Jane navigates the ins and outs of Austenland, she meets a variety of characters, including her hostess Mrs. Wattlesbrook, who seems to enjoy making Jane feel uncomfortable; Jane's fellow guests, including the bubbly and flirtatious Miss Elizabeth Charming and the reserved Colonel Andrews; and the charming stable hand Martin, who captures Jane's heart from the moment she meets him.
As Jane gets closer to Martin, she begins to question if their connection is real or just part of the Austenland experience. Meanwhile, tensions rise between Jane and Miss Charming as they compete for the affections of the same man, and Jane discovers darker secrets behind the seemingly idyllic resort.
In the end, Jane must come to terms with her own reality and decide what is truly important to her - finding a perfect gentleman or finding true love.
